I am sitting opposite one of my heroes Steve McCurry. We are having lunch, waiting for the downpour of rain to move somewhere else here in Denmark. My fingers itching around my camera and finally I cannot hold back, I just have to take a picture of him. Yes, I know, it is not strictly speaking following the rules of correct table manners, but then I think back on all the photographs he – McCurry – himself has taken through the years. He never waited for permission to take a photograph. Shoot first; ask for permission later (if necessary) seems to be one of his idioms. And he succeeds.
Steve McCurry is one of the old-school photojournalists around. Working for National Geographic and other prestigious magazines for many years he has orbit the globe multiple times and really likes India and Myanmar.
